About

Since graduating with a BA (hons) in Furniture Design and Make from the renowned Rycotewood Furniture, Christoph has been on a mission to demonstrate the potential of adaptive reuse. He helps his clients to turn their waste into stylish new furniture, improving the sustainability and charisma of large refit projects.

His work has been on display at the Young Furniture Makers Awards and been part of the London Design Festival 2022, in the GREEN GRADS exhibition at Coal Drops Yard.

At the latter show he won a coveted Change Maker Award for the potential of his approach to impact the real world.

Christoph is now spreading the word of adaptive reuse and helping organisations in the UK and wider world work towards a zero-waste future.

A little bit about me…

2016 - 2019

Move from Graz, Austria to Bridport, UK.

Completed a three-year apprenticeship with Master Craftsman Petter Southall, specialising in fine furniture making.

Worked on bespoke commissions featuring Petter’s signature steam-bent designs.

A woodworking workshop with various power tools, wooden planks, clamps, and workbenches covered in wood shavings and tools.
An empty wooden cabinet with open doors, standing against a textured concrete wall. The cabinet has multiple shelves and a slatted door at the bottom.

The Wave for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 was one of our last and most challenging projects.

We steam-bent 8-meter long and 2 inch thick solid wood boards around a 16ft diameter. Wonder how?

2019 - 2022

Move from Bridport to Oxford

Studying Furniture Design & Craft @Rycotewood Furniture Centre; First Class BA(hons)

My student work was nominated for the Young Furniture Makers Awards in the Bespoke and Design categories.

My final project, 'Upscaling Upcycling,' helped Oxford Brookes University rethink furniture waste and won a Change Maker Award at a graduate show.

2022 - Now

In 2022, with the support of a sponsorship, I established my workshop ‘Christoph Studio’ at the Sylva Wood Foundation.

I continue exploring how upcycling can contribute to a circular economy, while also completing a range of built-in commissions for private clients.

Testimonials

“The new dividers transformed the outside of the pub and made it so much nicer. Our customers love it!”

- Ed W., The White Rabbit Oxford

“Christoph demonstrated his creativity and attention to detail. The end result was a standout example of the opportunities for supposedly waste materials. Working to a tight deadline, Christoph embraced the project with enthusiasm and professionalism.”

- Joanna Knight, Co-Founder: Sustainable Design Collective

“We" worked with Christoph on a number of items in our listed house renovation. He provided a fantastic service throughout, with really useful advice and consultation during the design stages. The joinery is excellent. We'd happily recommend and work together again.”
